More information about Alto M.P.H.S. 2017

The estate's Flasghsip wine - the Alto M.P.H.S. - flows into the glass in a dark garnet red and impresses with its complexity from the very first moment. Wonderful aromas of fynbos and fruit are revealed on the nose, while notes of dark berries, plums, pine needles and oak make for an incredibly multi-layered taste experience on the palate. The tannins are soft and well integrated. The cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%) matured for eighteen months in French oak and is a tribute to Alto's former winemakers, as their initials form the name of the Alto M.P.H.S. The red wine is only available in a limited edition of 2613 bottles and is a highlight in a red wine glass on its own. However, you can also serve the wine with spicy dishes with dark meat, mushrooms and pasta.

ALTO Wine Estate

Alto is a farm with a rich history that lives up to its status as one of the most iconic wineries in the Western Cape Winelands. The first title deeds date back to 1693, but it was not until 1919 that the farm was fully dedicated to viticulture. Alto stretches along the steep northern slopes of the Helderberg and for nearly a century has built a reputation as one of the most respected red wine producers in South Africa.
