For a long time, Berlin Kreuzberg was considered a tough place. You didn't want to walk through there in the dark and you didn't go there unless you absolutely had to. Since then, the district in the east of Berlin has undergone a drastic transformation: more and more people discovered this previously overlooked corner of the capital for themselves and Kreuzberg first became a trend and then a cult.
The Kottbusser Tor subway station, affectionately known as Kotti by Berliners, is at the heart of this area, which is bursting with life and culture. Kotti has been the meeting place and center of Kreuzberg for years and attracts visitors with its international flair, iconic prefabricated buildings, the legendary Babylon cinema, museums, concert halls, pubs and food from all over the world.
Berliners are proud of their Kotti and its transformation. The brewers at the capital city brewery BRLO have also taken the U8 to Kotti countless times. Now they want to turn this incomparable feeling into a beery homage to the Kottbusser Tor.
The beer of the same name is a characterful Imperial Berliner Weisse with elderberry, hibiscus flowers and orange peel, which is bottled in aromatic oak barrels after the brewing process is complete. These barrels were previously home to a fine Cabernet Sauvignon and pass on the flavors of this noble drop to the beer during the 9-month storage period. The result is a ruby-red beer that combines the fruity acidity of a Berliner Weisse with the full-bodied aroma of a red wine.
