Murre Gin as Premium Barrel Aged London Dry Gin

This third edition of our World Gin Award 2021 winner "Murre Gin Wingrut" was aged in the wooden home of our finest Pinot Noir and thus matured in the unmistakable terroir of the most sought-after vineyard in the Ahr valley - the Walporzheimer Kräuterberg. The 400 bottles of this bottling are hand-numbered.

"A gin to remember"

Distilled in December 2020 and limited to 400 bottles, it not only carries the power of time and the love of nature with a full 24 months of maturation in red wine barrels, but also commemorates the night that made sad history as one of Germany's greatest natural disasters. This single barrel of our gin miraculously survived the devastating flood of 14.07.2021 completely undamaged. As #flutgin, it shares our memories and invites you to listen to its unique story.

The "Murre Gin Wingrut" - a project by two friends:

Weingut Peter Kriechel GbR, 53474 Ahrweiler wacholdas?! GmbH, 53757 Sankt Augustin

The Wingrut (Batch 1) was awarded Best German Matured Gin 2021 at the World Gin Awards. The jury's tasting note: Mint and eucalyptus top notes on the nose, with citrus, juniper, hints of herbs and spices, and a whiff of wood. The peppery, earthy spice notes dominate on the palate with intense eucalyptus and/or mint, leading to a peppery finish. Well balanced with good character.

David T. Smith from Gin Magazine gave the following verdict in his March 2021 issue: A brilliant gin with a great level of power and complexity. Lovely for a highball or French '75.

We were also delighted to win bronze at the International Wine & Spirit Competition 2021. The jury described the Wingrut as follows: " Bold nose of lemon and lime zest; palate offers soft vanilla before finishing with grapefruit."

Our gin comes from Sankt Augustin-Hangelar in the Rhineland. Carrots used to be grown here because of the sandy heath soil around the Hangelar airfield, which has been in operation since 1909. We wanted to create a product with local color, Murre (Rhenish for carrots) Gin in fact. So Murre Gin is definitely a tribute to our Rhenish roots - "Remember where you come from". After the decision for the carrot was made, we experimented at home with different botanicals, the results were tasted in the circle of friends. At some point, the basic desired composition was found and we turned to Frank Ginsberg, who was to become the distiller of our juniper. Together with him, the recipe got a final polish and since summer 2018 we now produce small batches of about 300 bottles with 44% Vol. We want to remain familiar and at the base and still deliver quality. That this is the case was found by...
