More information about Obsthof Retter Edition Sommelier
The wild cherry is mainly known as the "bird cherry". In earlier times, it was also known as the "little man's oak".
Due to the rather high location requirements, wild cherries need a lot of space and high-quality soil. The blossoms are magnificent and an important source of food for many bees and insects. The harvest of wild cherries is much later than that of cultivated cherries and often lasts until the end of July in higher mountain areas.
The dark red fruits are very small and have a relatively large cherry stone. They hang quite high, as the tree is fast-growing and only develops thicker branches from a certain height. Every good distiller or fruit processor knows that, despite the laborious harvest, they are rewarded with the highest possible fruit quality and that wild cherries have unique fruit aromas.
WILD cherry
Bouquet of dried black berries, fresh tobacco, peat and graphite. The fruits of the wild or Vogerl cherry have little flesh. The stone with its typical aroma dominates.
Our pleasure tip:
1/16 in a wine glass, drinking temperature: 10 - 12 °C. As a non-alcoholic accompaniment to food, our WILD cherry is recommended with desserts, hearty cheese specialties or hearty meat dishes.
