Spirit of Sankt Augustin - Single Malt New Make
Wondering what a new make is? New make, new spirit, new make spirit, moonshiner or white dog is the term used for freshly distilled malt spirit that has not yet seen the inside of a cask. In principle, it is freshly distilled and unaged whisky that is not yet allowed to call itself whisky. For this, it must first be matured for at least three years in oak barrels. The New Make is the basis for our whisky. For the bottling of our New Make spirit, the distillate is reduced to a drinking strength of 44% by volume, unlike for cask maturation, where it has over 60% by volume when the casks are filled.
The name is a reference to the "Spirit of St. Louis" and so the label is also adorned with an airplane. Both are references to our home town of Sankt Augustin-Hangelar with its airfield, which has been in operation for over 100 years and is therefore the oldest still in operation in Germany.
"The normal whisky drinker rarely has a New Make in their glass. Of course, it is unusual at first to have a colorless "schnapps" in your glass, which has nothing to do with a matured whisky in terms of aroma. However, anyone who has ever been lucky enough to taste New Make in Scotland or Ireland can still draw comparisons and I can't detect any significant differences here that would make it seem worse than the "originals". A deep fruitiness, a nice malty note, everything that should be there. I'm really looking forward to the matured versions!"(www.whiskyfanblog.de)
Powerful, but not sharp and fine fruit notes on the nose. Malty-sweet aromas on the palate, reminiscent of caramel and pastries. Fruit, caramel and grandma's cookies - delicious!

Our gin comes from Sankt Augustin-Hangelar in the Rhineland. Carrots used to be grown here because of the sandy heath soil around the Hangelar airfield, which has been in operation since 1909. We wanted to create a product with local color, Murre (Rhenish for carrots) Gin in fact. So Murre Gin is definitely a tribute to our Rhenish roots - "Remember where you come from". After the decision for the carrot was made, we experimented at home with different botanicals, the results were tasted in the circle of friends. At some point, the basic desired composition was found and we turned to Frank Ginsberg, who was to become the distiller of our juniper. Together with him, the recipe got a final polish and since summer 2018 we now produce small batches of about 300 bottles with 44% Vol. We want to remain familiar and at the base and still deliver quality. That this is the case was found by...
